ALPINNOCT PROJECT: EUROPEAN FUNDS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMBINED TRANSPORT THROUGH THE ALPS 7th-8th FEBRUARY 2018

The AlpInnoCT project makes a stop in Venice: on 7th and 8th February,  the IV Consortium Meeting of the European project concerning the geographical areas of Italy, Germany and Austria, Slovenia and Switzerland was held at the Cultural Center Don Orione Artigianelli. AlpInnoCT, an acronym for Alpine Innovation for Combined Transport, which was approved at the end of 2016 by the Interreg V Alpine Space Transnational Territorial Cooperation Program 2014-2020 with a total funding of three million euros, aims to improve the competitiveness of combined transport of goods through integrated and transnational optimization of intermodal services, also promoting the use of low-carbon transport.

The two-days event in Venice, which hosted 30 participants representing 15 international project partners, follows the meeting held last October in Trieste during which, with the coordination of the Lead partner Bavaria, the methodology was shared for starting the use of the “Dialogue event” tool, designed to actively involve the area’s stakeholders in the implementation of the project activities.

“The Alps are a delicate ecosystem that must be protected from polluting emissions and climate change. The continuous increase in the volume of freight traffic causes environmental problems. These trends increase the need to review current transport systems and develop innovative models to protect the Alpine Space as established, for example, in the EU White Paper of 2011 and the EUSALP strategy (Macro Strategy EUSALP) – stresses Mr Mario Pozza, president of Unioncamere Veneto -. However, the efficiency of combined transport is often low. AlpInnoCT faces the challenge of increasing efficiency and productivity through the application of the production industry know-how. The project represents an opportunity to improve processes and cooperation in European transport networks, to integrate innovative approaches to encourage a shift of freight transport from road to rail and to develop the knowledge and possibilities for participation of all stakeholders. Logistic service providers will benefit from better processes and a more user-friendly CT. Truck and trailer manufacturers will have an overview of the innovations in the CT world ».

During the Venetian meeting the progress of project activities was discussed and the mid conference event that will take place in early May in Prien (Germany). For Italy, AlpInnoCT participated, in addition to the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the Port of Trieste, Unioncamere del Veneto – Eurosportello, which is responsible for promotion and communication activities, the European Academy of Bolzano and the ZAI Interporto Quadrante Europa Consortium of Verona.
