VILLE ALONG THE BRENTA RIVER

One of the most charatteristically Venetian itineraries in the mainland is, beyond a doubt,  the Riviera del Brenta. It is a good way of putting Venice in its historical perspective – showing it is to be more than a unique city which rose up from the lagoon as if by magic –  of seeing the landscape which influenced Venetian culture, and the places where residents of the Serenissima liked to spend idle summers. All this can be appreciated by travelling along the banks of the River Brenta, where the Venetians used to build their holiday villas and palaces.
You first stop at Oriago to look at the villa Malcontenta, the work of Andrea Palladio. During winter closure, Villa could be visited – if possible – only for booked groups of minimum 30 people. At Mira Porte, Villa Foscari-Widman stands on the north bank of the river, and  then you find Barchessa Valmarana. An important monument is Villa Contarini detta dei Leoni, with its two marzocchi (lions bearing the shield) at the riverside entrance. Strà is the seat of the Villa Pisani National Museum in a park of 14 hectares, with splendid works of art, as Gianbattista Tiepolo’s masterpiece, The Glory of the Pisani family, a fresco on the ceiling of the ballroom. In Strà there is another Villa Pisani, known as La Barbariga, a 18th century villa with an English-style garden.

TRADITIONAL FEASTS IN NOVEMBER IN VENICE

San Martino, on 11th November and the Madonna della Salute, on 21st, are two important feasts to rejoice to experience the city as a local.
The Feast of St Martin is celebrated with a traditional sweet biscuit pastry representing St. Martin on horseback with his sword, while children go around to “batter sanmartin” or “to beat St. Martin” singing a nursery rhyme in exchange for sweets or coins. Do you want to prepare the traditional sweet ?

The Madonna della Salute is probably the least touristy of the Venetian festivities and is still a choral expression of the city’s religious spirit .  The Basilica was erected, following the vote made by the Doge to eradicate the terrible plague of 1630, and dedicated to Santa Maria della Salute. From that 21st November  the church was known as Madonna della Salute – Our Lady of good Health –  both in the physical and spiritual sense.

Venetians’ Week, from 16th to 21st November, free entrance to Peggy Guggenheim Collection  for residents of the Venice metropolitan area, on the occasion of the festivity of the Madonna della Salute, upon presentation of an ID or a Venezia Unica card. Entrance to the museum does not require reservation. For security reasons, access will be contingent.

November 21st is a Wednesday, so like every Wednesday for the residents of the metropolitan area, free entry to Palazzo Grassi and Punta della Dogana.

TERUMO EUROPE – Plenary meeting 23rd and 24th October 2018

Terumo Corporation was founded in 1921 by several scientists and doctors, including Dr. Shibasaburo Kitasato, to produce clinical thermometers in Japan. These vital medical devices had previously been imported, until they were cut off as a consequence of World War I.

The lifelong spirit of Dr. Kitasato, whose achievements received global recognition, is found in his statement: “Scientists should never feel self-satisfaction doing advanced research; the true objective is for the results to be put to use, thereby contributing to society.”

“Contributing to Society through Healthcare,” is both Terumo’s starting point and unchanging corporate mission. Keeping Dr. Kitasato’s spirit of innovation and challenge alive, we strive to bring outstanding innovation to medicine and enable the best possible care for patients.
